In what is positive news from Spain, a delegation from FASFE – the Spanish national supporters organisation – met with Sports Minister and president of the Higher Sports Council, José Ramón Lete, on June 20th to put forward proposals for the country’s planned new sports law.
The delegation consisted of FASFE members from across the country, led by their president José Ángel Zalba.
The group presented proposals to improve democracy and transparency within Spanish football as part of FASFE’s #CambiemosElFútbol (#Let’s Change Football) campaign, as well as relevant initiatives from supporters organisations across Europe.
This included last December’s Takkula report from the European parliament, which “considers the ownership model whereby club members retain control of the club (through the 50+1 rule) as a good practice in the EU, and invites the Member States, sports governing bodies, national federations and leagues to start a constructive dialogue on, and exchange of, this model.”
According to FASFE, the Minister of Sport was “interested” and “receptive” to the proposals made and committed to ensuring that supporters are part of the process that will create the new law.
FASFE campaigns for a more democratic, transparent and sustainable game in Spain and is organising the 4th edition of the Fútbol Popular gathering, which takes place in Madrid later this month. The organisation will now consult with fan groups wishing to contribute to their proposals for the new sports law.
